The timetable for introducing of steel futures has yet to be determined, said Zhu Juehai, manager assistant of Shanghai Futures Exchange (SHFE), at the Third Steel Trader Conference on Sunday.
Earlier, officials with China Iron and Steel Association (CISA) said the timetable for steel futures would probably come out after the Beijing Olympics.
Steel traders are eagerly expecting the introduction of steel futures when prices are dropping under the influence of the global financial crisis.
According to Zhu, SHFE has conducted full research on the choice of subject matter, the institutional arrangement as well as the completion of business transactions, and has also built cooperating relationship with relevant institutions.
However, the specific timetable still needs approval from related authorities, said Zhu.
