South Africa’s non-integrated chrome ore exporters want to discuss ways of solving the existential threat to South Africa’s struggling ferrochrome industry to avoid the need for a tax being imposed on the export of locally mined chrome ore.

China's stainless steel mills face higher costs for essential ingredient ferrochrome if, as expected, South Africa goes ahead with proposals to impose taxes on exports of chrome ore to help protect its smelting industry.

This week, the ferrosilicon market is still running stably, higher cost and tight spot and the downstream demand side is also strong, the confidence of ferrosilicon manufacturers is good.

The 2101 ferrosilicon contract price on ZCE closed at 6184 yuan per ton on November 19.

The first export consignment is scheduled to leave the Chattogram port, some 242 km southeast of the capital Dhaka, on Nov. 21, the company said in a statement.
